The Trust funds a number of studentships, scholarships, and fellowships for the research training of students and graduates working in the health science faculties of some New Zealand universities.

How do I apply?

These awards are allocated and administered by the host institution and are currently available within the University of Auckland and the University of Otago. In Auckland the available awards are Summer Research Scholarships, the James Hodge M & P Paykel Scholarships in Medical and Health Sciences, the Phyllis Paykel Memorial Scholarships in Medical Sciences, and the Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biomedical Science. The University of Otago administers Summer Research Scholarships, the James Hodge M & P Paykel Scholarships in Medical and Health Sciences, and the Phyllis Paykel Memorial Scholarships in Medical Sciences.

Further information about these awards, including method of application, should be obtained from the administrative office of the relevant host institution. further information should be sought from the Office of the Dean, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Auckland. The Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biomedical Science in Auckland is currently occupied and new applications will be called for in early 2021.

Reports

Scholarships and Fellowships are administered on the Trust’s behalf by the University of Auckland and the University of Otago. For each award the host institution and the Trust have jointly approved regulations which include reporting requirements. These requirements vary between awards but, as a general rule, periodic progress reports and final reports must be submitted to the Dean of the relevant faculty.

A copy of the regulations for a particular award may be requested from the office of the Trust or the administrative office of the relevant host institution.
