PROJECT AND EQUIPMENT GRANTS
GRANT APPLICATION - GUIDELINES

Project grants
These grants-in-aid provide limited research support for individuals or groups working in the health-related biomedical sciences, or in the fields of public health and health education. Support is usually sufficient to provide only for running costs of the research and/or some necessary equipment, but limited salary support may also be provided on special justification. Project grants are usually for one year, but exceptionally the Trust may support a project for up to three years.

Equipment grants
In addition to small equipment items needed for single projects, the Trust may assist with the purchase of larger equipment items for shared use within a research institution. The justification then depends on the needs of the research field and the institution as well as on the merits of individual research projects.

Closing dates for applications
Applications for project grants-in-aid (including equipment items) are considered at meetings in April and November each year. Relevant closing dates are:

1 March (for the April meeting of the Trust Board)
1 October (November meeting).

The decision of the Trust Board will be notified to applicants by email at the close of each funding round, i.e. as soon as possible after the relevant meeting of the Board. MPPT office staff will also send copies of notification letters by post if these are specifically requested by applicants.
