PROJECT AND EQUIPMENT GRANTS
GRANT APPLICATION - ONLINE APPLICATION

The online application form will collect only the key information for your application. Supporting details must be prepared in a document (MS Word, Excel or PDF) and uploaded as an associated File (item 5) during completion of the online form. Documents containing other relevant information can also be uploaded, but be aware that each application has a total size limit of 977kb.
(N.B. It is better to avoid uploading large files - small files give better control of total content as the size limit approaches. When this has been reached, any additional material must be emailed separately.)

Before completing the on-line application form you will be asked to create an applicant account. This enables you to save applications in process and return later to complete and submit them. With an account you can also view earlier applications and grants and upload reports.

Here are some important points to guide you in preparing application documents.

  1. The application document (excluding attachments) should have a maximum length of ten (10) A4 pages, with text in font size 11 or above. The pages should be arranged as follows:

    • Page 1: Overview of the project in lay language, indicating a timetable for the research and giving its relevance to (a) human health and (b) scientific knowledge;
    • Pages 2-5: Not more than four (4) pages describing the research in scientific terms, with key references;
    • Page 6: Budget, including justification of requested items in order of priority and a note of other funding for the research (already obtained or being sought);
    • Pages 7-10: Brief biographical details of applicant/principal investigator(s), including (a) qualifications, (b) relevant experience and (c) publications in the past five years.

  2. The opinions of up to two (2) appropriate referees should be obtained by the applicant, scanned and uploaded as part of the online application.

  3. Any other documents considered essential to a full understanding of the application may be uploaded at the applicant's discretion.

  4. Online submission must include confirmation of approval by the host institution. (N.B. Applicants based in institutions which are registered on the MPPT website will see a pop-up box giving detail of steps required by that institution. Other applicants should check whether their host institution requires copies of applications submitted online before an external research funding contract can be finalised.)

  5. The decision of the Trust Board will be notified to applicants by email at the close of each funding round, i.e. as soon as possible after the relevant meeting of the Board. MPPT office staff will also send copies of notification letters by post if these are specifically requested by applicants.
