TRAVEL GRANTS
GRANT APPLICATION - ONLINE APPLICATION

The online application form will collect only the key information for your application. Supporting details must be prepared as documents (MS Word, Excel or PDF) and uploaded as associated files (item 5) during completion of the online form. These should include abstracts submitted for presentation at conferences and any other relevant information. (N.B.: be aware that each application has a size limit of 2MB - documents in excess of this limit should be emailed separately to the Trust.)

Before completing the on-line application form you will be asked to create an applicant account. This enables you to save applications in process and return later to complete and submit them. With an account you can also view earlier applications and grants and upload reports.

Here are some important points to guide you in preparing application documents.

  1. The application document should have a maximum length of six (6) A4 pages, with text in font size 11 or above, and should include the following information:

    • justification for travel;
    • travel itinerary and meeting(s) to be attended;
    • abstract of paper/poster offered for presentation;
    • information on whether paper/poster approved for presentation;
    • details of budget (with quotes if available);
    • other funds for the travel (available or being sought);
    • other travel by applicant in past three years;

  2. A curriculum vitae (including stage of PhD if appropriate) may be included within the application document or uploaded as a separate file if preferred.

  3. A letter of support from a senior colleague (e.g. head of the relevant department or other person of equivalent status) should also be uploaded. No other referee letters are required.

  4. Online submission must include confirmation of approval by the host institution. (N.B. Applicants based in institutions which are registered on the MPPT website will see a pop-up box giving detail of steps required by that institution. Other applicants should check whether their host institution requires copies of applications submitted online before an external research funding contract can be finalised.)

  5. The decision of the Trust Board will be notified to applicants by email at the close of each funding round, i.e. as soon as possible after the relevant meeting of the Board. MPPT office staff will also send copies of notification letters by post if these are specifically requested by applicants.
