Important Updates For Applicants

14 July 2026

As we prepare for our next funding round, the Maurice and Phyllis Paykel Trust would like to highlight some important updates and reminders for applicants.

We are now fully using Tahua
The Trust has transitioned to Tahua as our funding application and grant management portal. All new applications should now be prepared and submitted through Tahua.

Applicants are encouraged to log in to the portal well ahead of the funding deadline, familiarise themselves with the application process, and ensure their contact and profile information is up to date.

Check that you are using the current CV template
Applicants should ensure they are using the current standard CV template available through the application portal. Please download the current version when preparing your application rather than reusing a CV from a previous funding round.

Remember the stand-down period
There is a one-year stand-down period for Project & Equipment and Travel funding. If you have received funding from the Trust recently, please check your eligibility before beginning a new application.

The rules differ slightly between grant categories – for example, recipients of a Project & Equipment Grant may still apply for a Travel Grant during their Project & Equipment stand-down period.

Project & Equipment applicants – contact your referees early
Project & Equipment Grant applications require reports from two referees with appropriate expertise in the proposed area of research. Referees should not be collaborators and preferably should not be from the applicant's institution.

Referee reports must be received by the application deadline, so we strongly recommend approaching potential referees well in advance and giving them sufficient time to review your proposal.

Check your institution's internal deadlines
Applicants based at universities or other institutions should also check whether their organisation has an internal Research Office deadline or approval process. The Trust recommends advising your Research Office of your intention to apply at least 10 business days before the Trust's closing date.

Travel Grants cannot be awarded retrospectively
Applicants seeking Travel Grant support should check the relevant dates carefully. The Trust does not provide retrospective travel funding, and proposed travel must take place after the Trust Board meeting at which the application will be considered.

Questions?
We encourage all applicants to read the relevant grant guidelines carefully before submitting an application. If you are unsure about your eligibility, the appropriate grant category, or any aspect of the application process, please contact the Trust office before the closing date.

Our current funding round closes at 5.00 pm on Thursday, 1 October 2026.
